Abstract: In the metathesis reaction, the carbon-carbon double or triple bonds are cleaved and the new double or triple bonds are formed again. Since Mo- and Ru-carbene complexes were discovered by Schrock and Grubbs, metathesis reaction have been a useful method in organic syntheses. As the metathesis reaction, 1:ring closing metathesis, 2:cross metathesis, 3:ring opening metathesis, 4:enynemetathesis, 5:diyne metathesis are known.

Key words: carbene complex, ring closing metathesis, cross metathesis, ring opening metathesis, enynemetathesis
